Local engineering, construction and project management company M&M Jamaica Limited has announced the opening of its $12.2-million scholarship programme for the 2024-25 academic year. The scholarships are open to students studying in fields such as engineering or building construction. In a bid to foster a diverse workforce, the programme also considers promising students in other disciplines.

Richard Mullings, managing director, highlighted the company’s vision of expanding access and opportunity, particularly for students who are the first in their families to attend university and come from low- to-middle-income communities. “Our goal is to bridge the educational and opportunity gaps within our society,” Mullings said. “We are committed to supporting bright, young minds who have the potential to become future leaders in their respective fields.”

The scholarship programme is designed to benefit students from selected communities such as St Catherine (Amity Hall), St Elizabeth (Brompton and Essex Valley), St James (Montego Bay), Westmoreland (Llandilo) and western Kingston, as well as students from the St Elizabeth Technical High School.

Don Mullings, chairman of M & M Jamaica, said: “Through scholarships, many of us have been able to follow our dreams and passion; the least we should do is extend a hand to our young people, so that they too will be able to follow their dreams. I believe that we have everything to gain by investing in our most treasured asset, our young people,” he said. “Our support helps alleviate the financial burden of education and paves the way for future leaders in our industry.”

Since its inception in 2009, the M & M Jamaica Limited scholarship programme has provided vital financial assistance annually to bright and promising students from challenging backgrounds.

Past scholarship recipients have expressed deep gratitude for the support they have received. One former scholar remarked, “I remain ever so grateful for M & M Jamaica’s contribution to my education. Their support has significantly alleviated the burden of student loans and contributed to my professional success.” Another recipient shared, “This scholarship has been a testament to God’s faithfulness and has eased the financial challenges associated with higher education.”

In addition to financial support, the M & M Jamaica scholarship programme includes a mentorship component. Awardees are paired with experienced professionals who provide guidance, support, and connections to potential internship and career opportunities.
