Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, has expressed solidarity with all affected by Hurricane Milton in the United States.

In a statement on Thursday, Johnson Smith reaffirmed that the Government and people of Jamaica stand with those impacted by both Hurricanes Milton and Helene, particularly in Florida, home to a significant portion of the Jamaican Diaspora.

She is encouraging members of the Diaspora to contact the Jamaican Consulate in Miami for assistance, including access to state, federal, and community resources.

The Associated Press reports that Hurricane Milton barrelled into the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday after ploughing across Florida, where it knocked out power to more than three million customers and whipped up 150 tornadoes.

The storm caused at least four deaths and compounded the misery wrought by Helene while sparing Tampa a direct hit.
