The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a Jamaican man who lived in the United States by a policeman at an event in Ewarton, St Catherine last night.

The incident occurred about 10:10 p.m. at the Ewarton Sports Complex.

It is reported that the policeman and Francis were among persons at an event at the venue when an argument developed between them.

During the spat, Francis reported withdrew a knife from his waist and stabbed at the policeman within striking distance.

The cop drew his service firearm and reportedly shouted “police drop the knife”.

Francis reportedly advanced at the policeman who opened fired.

Francis was hit.

He was assisted to the Linstead Hospital where he succumbed to injuries received.
