A multimillion-dollar state-of-the-art Old Harbour Comprehensive Health Centre is to be constructed in St Catherine.

Ground was broken this morning for the 2,000 sq. ft. health facility which is being funded by the Government and international partners at a total cost of US$6 million.

The health centre will serve 10,000 people monthly.

St Catherine South West Member of Parliament, Everald Warmington, lauded the government for improving access to healthcare.

In his address, Warmington also chastised government agencies for what he said was their lack of protocol in organising functions in his constituency that exclude Custos of St Catherine, Icylyn Golding.

While commending planners for including Golding at today's groundbreaking, Warmington charged that this only happened after his intervention.

"I'm tired of seeing functions planned in St Catherine South West without the inclusion of the custos while the mayor is included," he remarked.

"The mayor is the Mayor of Spanish Town and the custos is the custos for the parish of St Catherine and also the first citizen of the parish.

"Make it be the last time a function is held in this constituency that bypasses the custos. If they do, they will have to bypass me also."
