The Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) has received a significant boost to its operations, with the addition of four maintenance vehicles to its fleet.

The handover took place during the official opening of the new $50-million Adelphi Health Centre in St James on October 17.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr  Christopher Tufton, said the units are to be strategically allocated to support healthcare logistics across the region, which includes the parishes of St James, Hanover, Trelawny, and Westmoreland.

“[The units] will now support the logistics or the movement of tools, goods and personnel, so that we can ensure the consistent upkeep of the hospital and the health facilities,” Tufton explained.

He added that it is important that the vehicles are properly maintained, urging staff members to exercise caution and responsibility in handling WRHA's newest assets.

In the meantime, Tufton commended the entity for its continued efforts to assess and address the region's healthcare needs.

He said the vehicles represent an essential part of the process in keeping healthcare operations running smoothly.

“They work together as a team [in] assessing that need and always making the right steps,” Tufton indicated.

The Adelphi Health Centre was opened under the Poverty Reduction Programme (PRP), implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) and funded by the European Union (EU).

The new 4,262-square-foot building is now capable of serving approximately 2,000 community members monthly with enhanced healthcare services.
