Deltonio Williams gets third term as Westmoreland Cricket Association president

Deltonio Williams has been re-elected president of the Westmoreland Cricket Association for the third time.

The poll was held on Tuesday at the federation's annual general meeting in Bluefields, Westmoreland. 

"I am very much comfortable and feel good that they really want me to continue this time. This is why I did the election before the time. I would have had three more months but I said no, I want you guys to tell me if you really want me. It was unanimous, which all the clubs say I must be the president," Williams said following the announcement of the results.  

Williams first became president in 2019 and has been uncontested for three consecutive terms.

Williams has been affiliated with cricket in Westmoreland since 1992.

He left the group in 2018 and was asked by members to come back.

In other election results, Collin Hitchman (22 votes) was elected first vice president, defeating Douglas Arnold (17 votes) and Kenute Simpson (6 votes).

David Campbell (4 votes) was elected second vice president, defeating Ruel Wynter (2 votes) and Daryl Lee (1 vote).

"I am bringing the schools back in order. I have been doing camps with them and we will be doing more because each school cannot find a team by themselves, " said Williams.

"I will use the first month to a year to put all the schools together and help then to get a chance to join the Headley Cup," he added.

Over 30 clubs were nominated at the meeting.

Forty-two primary schools and eight high schools are affiliated with cricket in Westmoreland.
