A 47-year-old construction worker from St James who was allegedly caught stealing appliances from a house in Hanover on Monday has been charged.

He is Dennis McKenzie, from Salt Spring in St James. He has been charged with house breaking, larceny and malicious destruction of property.

According to reports from the Hanover police, the complainant had securely locked his house in Green Island, leaving his son inside, before heading out.

Around 9:30 a.m., the complainant's son reportedly heard noises at the front door and upon checking, allegedly saw McKenzie removing a refrigerator from the house.

The teen alerted his father, who rushed home and allegedly found McKenzie attempting to remove a washing machine. McKenzie fled the scene when confronted by the homeowner.

The incident was reported to the police, leading to McKenzie's arrest and subsequent charges.

He is scheduled to appear in the Hanover Parish Court on November 13.
