NWC systems impacted by Tropical Storm Rafael
The National Water Commission (NWC) says several of its systems have been impacted by Tropical Storm Rafael.
It says while most major systems are still operational, initial assessments show that some customers are now experiencing temporary disruptions in water supply, mainly due to increased turbidity levels or isolated cases of power supply issues.
It says a more detailed status report will be provided once its teams can safely access all affected areas.
Acting President of the NWC, Kevin Kerr, is encouraging customers to report all issues to the NWC and to manage their stored water carefully as the ongoing rainfall may further impact water supply systems.
Some of the anticipated issues include high turbidity levels, landslides, flooding at NWC facilities, or power outages.
Additionally, some manholes in low-lying areas may overflow with rainwater. This overflow is expected to subside as rainfall decreases.
The NWC says its emergency response teams are fully mobilised and ready to respond as soon as conditions allow.
