Lauriston Stew Festival wows patrons at 18th staging

Scores of patrons journeyed to Brooklyn Park ,Thompson Pen, St Catherine on November 2 for the 18th staging of the Lauriston Stew Festival and Farmers’ Market.

The food fair, which was endorsed a success by Member of Parliament Denise Daley, featured something for everyone, from creative and informative exhibitions, music to food, including a wide array of natural juices and other beverages. The stew theme lived up to its reputation and fully satisfied the palates and curiosity of the attendees.

Among the items were stewed june plum, stewed guava, stewed egg, stewed rabbit, stewed duck, stewed chicken, stewed fish, stewed peas and a whole pig roasted on open fire.

Anika Gayle, leader of the Lauriston Thompson Pen Community 4-H Club, said the event aimed to satisfy the varying needs of attendees.

“We realise that the needs of the patrons are varied, and therefore we continue to diversify the offerings,” Gayle said.

There was also wide a variety of plants on display at the Farmer’s Market, with a range of services and products on offer from the various booths on location.

Donnette Markland, a first-time attendee, commended the range of items available.

“This is a great display of stewed products. I really enjoyed the stew rabbit. It tasted very good,” she said.

The National Fisheries Authority was title sponsor of the event.
