A 47-year-old St Catherine man who was found guilty of manslaughter was sentenced to five years and nine months' imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Warren McFarlane, of Greater Portmore, St Catherine, had pleaded guilty in relation to the death of 37-year-old Radcliff Hobbs, also of Greater Portmore.

Presiding Judge, Justice Yvonne Brown said McFarlane would benefit from a reduced sentence because of his guilty plea.

She noted that he could have received up to 10 years' imprisonment.

The court heard that on September 9, 2018, Hobbs broke into McFarlane's house and stole a television set and a bicycle.

McFarlane received information about the incident and confronted Hobbs and a physical fight developed.

A knife was reportedly brought into play and Hobbs was stabbed.

Hobbs died from his injuries and investigation led to McFarlane's arrest. McFarlane was eventually charged with murder.
