Morisa Hutchinson, a 17-year-old student of Hillel Academy, assisted by her brother Shakir Hutchinson, a student of Jamaica College, combined both their passions – the love of volunteering and engineering – into a project called ‘Off the Grid’. Morisa donated four solar-powered flood lights to Epping Forest Primary in Potsdam, St Elizabeth, which was well received by the institution, as it will not only provide proper perimeter lighting for the school but also boost the student’s STEM learning as they can see practical ways how to use renewable energy. She funded this initiative through funds raised from a bake sale and the difference was offset by Alternative Energy Plus Ltd.
