Local government minister says probe into Pearnel Charles Arcade fire under way
Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, says investigations into the cause of today's fire at the Pearnel Charles Arcade in downtown Kingston are now under way.
The massive fire destroyed 95 stalls, affecting the livelihoods of 54 vendors.
“The Jamaica Fire Brigade is conducting the forensic investigation into the cause of this huge fire, which has not only affected the vendors but also their dependents, as well as the many people who provide services to the vendors and shoppers who use the Arcade,” McKenzie said in a press statement.
“I know that this is especially difficult, as we are less than six weeks away from Christmas.
“I have already spoken with the Mayor of Kingston and St Andrew, and once the investigation is completed, the vendors will be consulted about the way forward, as they seek to recover from this stressful incident.”
