'Decision time near' - Holness hints at elections in appeal for Jamaicans to back JLP for third straight term
Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the general election is "near" in a speech on Sunday in which he urged Jamaicans to keep the Jamaica Labour Party in government for a third consecutive term.
The national polls are due by September 2025.
"The Jamaica Labour Party is the best choice for leading Jamaica. the Jamaica Labour Party is ready for the third term," he said at the JLP's conference.
"It comes down to one thing my friends, one thing, the Jamaica Labour Party always fixes things. The Jamaica Labour Party always builds things. The Jamaica Labour Party deals with now and it deals with the medium terms and it deals with long term, the Jamaica Labour Party knows how to steer the economy and at the same time ensure that the people who are on the ship don't die from seasickness because we know how to properly manage the heavy waves and the white squall and challenges that come when you are running a country," Holness stated.
Holness argued that the Opposition People's National Party cannot be trusted to govern Jamaica. He asserted that, historically, the PNP has not managed Jamaica's economy well when in power.
"But what it comes down to my friends that we must have in front of us as we consider that a time for decision is near, that when ever the other people have the helm of the ship, they run it aground, dem mash it up, they create problems. Every time bar none and that is why my brothers and sisters, I continue to offer myself .
"I not only have so much things to say, I still have a lot of things to do," Holness said.
