The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited  (GCML) says it has agreed to a payment schedule for retroactive sums owed to workers.

The workers staged a demonstration on Wednesday to protest the entity's decision not to pay new salary rates and retroactive payments in the December payroll.

However, in a statement on Thursday morning, the company's management said the matter was settled during a meeting with the Union of Technical Administrative and Supervisory Personnel on Wednesday.

FULL STATEMENT FROM GCML:

The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited wishes to advise that the matter which led to the demonstration by some members of staff yesterday, Wednesday December 11, 2024, has been settled.

The settlement follows a meeting yesterday, between the Union of Technical Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP) and Senior Management, which has agreed to a schedule of payments associated with the wage and fringe benefits agreement for the two-year period 2023 to 2025. The agreement was signed last Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Chief Executive Officer of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group, Anthony Smith stated that the Gleaner is committed to the welfare of its staff and will ensure that they receive all that is their due.

He noted that the viability of the organisation is contingent on the partnership with all team members.

Mr Smith emphasised the need for open channels of communication between the parties and expressed confidence that while disputes occur from time to time, most matters can be resolved through dialogue.
