SOMETIMES, WITH the busyness of life, we lose sight of the essentials. In this Christmas season, we can get caught up in the commercialism of the period. Buy, buy, buy and spend, spend, spend. It’s Xmas, winter festival, or Yuletide, all distractions from the Truth.

The truth is that this is the Christmas season which is Christ’s mass. A time of joy on earth and a season of goodwill to all mankind. A time where we tend to all be better people, more caring, sharing and loving human beings, more so than at any other time of the year.

All because (as Boney M, the group, sings) “ Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ, was born on Christmas day.” We can debate the exact date another time. The reality is that Jesus is the reason for the season.

I am here to share with you a wonderful truth … Almighty God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Alpha and Omega, Our Heavenly Father, He loves you and me with an unrivalled, unfathomable, inexplicable, inexhaustible, infinite, unconditional love.

Wow! What a Christmas present to realise this and to let God’s presence fully into our lives through His son Jesus, and for that awesome loving presence to be our present for Christmas.

There is another force at work trying to divide and rule us. There is a cartoon character called the Grinch. He wants to steal and cancel Christmas. In the book, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Scrooge tries to eradicate the Spirit of Christmas.

A LIAR

They are all representative of our true enemy and adversary, Satan the Devil. He hates us with a passion and he is a liar from Creation until today.

The Bible (which is the unadulterated, true and complete Word of GOD) tells us in John 10:10, that the enemy (Satan) has come but to kill, steal and destroy. But Jesus said He came that we should have life and have it more abundantly.

Isaiah 9:6, one of the many biblical predictions of Christ’s coming is given by saying, “For unto us, a Child is born, on to us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder and his name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace”.

In Matthew 1:21, scripture says , And she (Mary), will bring forth a Son. And you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

We all know the Nativity story. Joseph and his expectant wife Mary come to Bethlehem for the census, but there was no room at the inn. The only accommodation available was a lowly stable. Mary gave birth to the saviour of the world, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, in those humble surroundings.

Magi, Eastern royalty, came to worship and honour him, having followed heavenly signs, a star in the east. They came with gifts – gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Led by an angel, lowly shepherds came to worship him and angelic hosts from Heaven came and rejoiced.

Society’s highest and humblest came to acknowledge and worship the Christ Child.

Herod, the ruler of that region, tried to kill Jesus by murdering all the children in the region up to the age of two. Joseph, warned by an angel in a dream, leaves the area and goes to Egypt with his family before the slaughter of the innocents. Satan had a terrible plan but, as always, God has a greater one.

Mark 2:16 “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace and goodwill to all mankind”.

Luke 2:11: “For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (The Messiah).

The greatest verse in the Bible lets us know God’s love for us John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whomsoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world, through Him, might be saved”.

FORGIVENESS

God sent Jesus to overcome hell, death and the grave so that, through believing in Christ and receiving him as Lord and Saviour, we have forgiveness of all sins – past, present and future.

We have a restored, right relationship with God. We have eternal life and a heavenly home. The Lord wants us to repent of our sins and recognise that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, that he was buried and rose on the third day, victorious over sin, death and the grave. This is known as being born again.

To be born again, say out loud with genuine conviction: Lord Jesus, come into my life and be the Lord of my life. I’m truly sorry for all the sins I’ve committed against you. I know you died on the cross for me and that you were buried and rose again on the third day victorious over death, sin and the grave, and you did all this for me!

Lord Jesus, come into my life and be Lord of my life. Father God, I will serve you from this day forward. Thank you for loving me. I love you too.

If you have genuinely repeated this, you’re now a born-again Christian. You just received the greatest gift on Earth. Well done! Find a good church to attend and a good study Bible to read daily. Pray daily and the Lord will lead you.

So, let people know Jesus is the reason for the season and share His truth, His peace and His love everywhere you can, with all whom you can. Be the light in the darkness of this world. Shine and bring positive change, especially in this wonderful season.

God bless you all and Merry Christmas!
