Guys Hill community group shows it cares
The Guys Hill Community Development Committee (CDC) in St Catherine on Monday held its third annual children’s treat.
The event was held at the Guys Hill Town Hall, built in 1938, which was transformed into a zone of celebration and laughter as the children enjoyed the occasion.
Among the attendees was Police Constable Chevon McKoy, who has been attached to the Guys Hill Police Station for the past 17 years. She took time out to sing and dance with the children.
“The atmosphere here is very good. You can see it in the eyes of the children as they recite popular Christmas songs and enjoy themselves,” McKoy said.
The children were like a choir as they recited, sang and were gifted with ice cream, snacks, music and watched a movie, which truly added to the merriment.
“My children have benefited from the treat every year since its inception and it is a great feeling that a community group shows that it cares,” said Marcia Brady.
Lynworth Brown, president of the Guys Hill CDC, said it was one of the group’s social responsibilities to be charitable and caring, especially to the children.
“This is a way for the CDC to offer some goodies to children throughout our communities. This activity shows that we love them dearly,” Brown said.
Several parents said the treat was a welcome respite for those who turned out for the day’s occasion.
The group told The Gleaner that next year it will be bigger and better.
