Hanover farmer charged with murder of man in his community

The Hanover police have charged 32-year-old Romaine Cunningham, otherwise called 'Mango', a farmer of Pell River in the parish, with murder following an incident in his community last year January.

He is accused of killing 41-year-old Sheldon Salmon, a labourer of the same district.

The Green Island Police say about 8:40 p.m. on January 21, 2024, Salmon was at home when men knocked on his door and identified themselves as police.

After refusing to answer the door, the men reportedly kicked it open, entered the house and opened gunfire at Salmon, hitting him multiple times.

The men then escaped.

The police were alerted and the injured man was taken to the hospital where he was treated and admitted.

Salmon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on December 26, 2024.

Cunningham was arrested on December 28, 2024 and was later charged following a question and answer interview in the presence of his lawyer.

His court date is pending.
