The police say he is to be transferred to the appropriate authorities to serve his sentence.

A man who absconded after being tried and sentenced to prison in his absence was today captured by the police in St Mary after being on the run since 2021.

Ojay Miles, a labourer of Long Road district in the parish, was apprehended during an operation along Main Street in Annotto Bay.

According to the police, Miles was wanted for illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law.

"In 2018, Miles was accused of threatening a 16-year-old girl with a firearm in Enfield, St Mary,” disclosed Acting Superintendent for the St Mary division, Anthony Wallace.

"Following investigations, he was charged and later tried in the St Mary Circuit Court. Despite being found guilty and sentenced in absentia to nine years' imprisonment in 2021, Miles failed to appear in court and remained at large, "Wallace added.

According to Wallace, on Monday morning cops spotted and apprehended Miles during a snap raid.

He said that Miles and will be transferred to the appropriate authorities to serve his sentence.

"The police remain committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens and that they are thanking the public for their continued support in bringing fugitives to justice," Wallace said.
