A five-year-old girl this afternoon died in a house that caught fire on White Hall Avenue in St Andrew this afternoon.

She has been identified as Kimberly Harrison.

Divisional commander for the St Andrew North Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Randy Sweeney, told The Gleaner that the fire started sometime after 2:00 p.m.

“It was reported to me that the mother of the child left her with the grandmother and went on the road and during that time a fire started. We cannot confirm the origin of the same. The fire started, the grandmother escape from the house, and the child was trapped,” he said.

Sweeney said firefighters were called to the scene conducting cooling down operations.

The remains of the child was removed from the rubble.
