Those creative people

When Kia Williams and Jordan Moses formed Those Creative People (TCP) in 2015, they knew they wanted it to be more than just an advertising company. "We knew from the very beginning that we wanted a big-ideas company that specialised in creativity in any form. The plan was to start with a focus on advertising, which we formally studied in college and had experience in, and then expand into product development. And that's exactly what we did. We found that we could apply the same combination of creative concepts, writing and visuals that we use in advertising to products," said Williams.

In November 2016, they finally launched the TCP product line at Moda Market with Jamaican greeting cards, gift tags and 'One Bag Ah Tings' totes. "It was truly amazing to watch people experience our products for the first time and love them," the team shared with Outlook. In December, they added Marc Gayle to the product arm of the company as director of operations, to help take the product line to the next level, bringing to the table years of business and product development experience.

"The thought behind the name was that we wanted to create amazing work and products that would make people ask, 'Wow, who made this?'. And the response would be, 'Those Creative People did'; and then when they would ask, 'Who are those creative people?' the answer would again be, 'They are Those Creative People!'" said Williams.

The line currently consists of greeting cards, gift tags and One Bag Ah Tings tote bags, that are distinctly Jamaican. "Our goal was to create cards, tags and bags that capture Jamaican culture, with creative twists and First-World designs. We want to be the Jamaican Hallmark and we believe Jamaicans deserve to have the option to buy local cards that truly connect to them and their culture, without having to sacrifice on design. All our greeting cards and gift tags are proudly designed and printed in Jamaica. We have big plans, not only to continuously launch new card, tag and bag designs, but also products in new categories."

IDEA FOR THE TOTE

The products all bear the distinct Jamaican patois. So, from a tag that reads, 'From yuh favourite smaddy', to the name sake bag - One Bag a Tings, it's uniquely Jamaican.

"The idea for our 'One Bag Ah Tings' tote bag was that since Jamaicans, especially Jamaican women, are known for walking around with 'one bag ah tings' we wanted to turn that into an official bag. The idea for this bag actually came to us a few years ago, before we formed TCP, and we were excited to finally bring it to life. People love the bag, not only buying them for themselves, but also as gifts, which they then fill with one bag ah tings. On our bag tags is also the statement, 'Your One Bag Ah Tings Makes More Than A Fashion Statement', because part proceeds from every purchase goes to the Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica campaign to help keep our island clean by encouraging [the use of] reusable bags, instead of plastic ones, when people shop."

The totes currently come in three options: natural canvas (with black text); black (with white text); and a brand new black (with gold text), The bags are not available in stores as yet and are done to order via email.

The greeting cards are currently available at Pandora Day Spa in the back of the CPJ complex on Lady Musgrave Road, St Andrew. However, within the next few weeks, they will be rolling Jamaican greeting cards and gift tags to a pharmacy near you.
