Wellness Inspired by Jamaica with Golden Flourish

Racheal Daley defines self-care as "taking time out of my day to just be able to enjoy the simple things". This became a habit for her having been surrounded by Jamaican women who gave so much of themselves and paid little or no attention to themselves.

Daley says it's as simple as taking time to do a five- to 10-minute meditation session or taking a longer shower, a self-massage with her favourite body butter or oil topped off with her Golden Flourish tea.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jamaican parents. Jamaica, however, has always been her home and her blood. She is heavily influenced by the culture and her mother's work ethic and selflessness.

"The women in my family were always doing things for others, whether it be family, friends, or people they might have just met. I noticed I would do the same thing and then I was left feeling depleted and exhausted," she shared.

Golden Flourish was born as a holistic wellness company where she could provide wellness coaching, energy healing, and herbal tea blends. She wanted to provide a haven for women of colour to go and feel safe and cared for.

Now she offers wellness coaching and what she calls energy healing which she describes as a practice using an ancient Japanese technique called reiki.

"During a typical session, I am the channel for non-invasive spiritually guided life energy. After sessions, clients often feel more relaxed. They often speak about a release of tension or stress within the body, improved sleep, assistance in relieving pain and so much more," Daley told Outlook.

HERBAL TEAS

Her teas she attributes to her Jamaican background. After exploring natural ways of living and apprenticing at a herb shop, she was reminded of how her grandmother and other family members would suggest different 'bush teas' when someone was feeling ill. She felt a connection to the herbs and admitted that, at first, she did not see where it came from but she traced it back to her Jamaican heritage and that is what made her who she is today.

She now offers four teas on her website goldenflourish.co - Amore, which she states is to assist with heart health and nurture and nourish the cardiovascular system; Nourish'd, which is to help with your energy levels giving you a boost; Serene to help to calm and make you relax; and Moon, specially crafted for women to help with their monthly cycle.

She still travels often to St Elizabeth as she enjoys staying with family in and embracing the culture and nature which is so much a part of who she is.

Daley offers virtual wellness coaching, her next step is to find ways in which to offer some of her services physically in Jamaica.

"I am hoping to collaborate with various healing spaces to offer my herbal tea blends, wellness workshops, and retreats in the near future," Daley tells Outlook.

She encourages women to commit to some act of self-care and engage in things that will improve their mental health. "Please take care of yourselves. Let's eliminate the feeling of burnout or exhaustion before it even enters into your life. If you aren't well, you can't show up at your optimal health and wellness for your family, friends or at work," she advised.
