'Brilliant things happen in calm minds', is the tagline for one of the world’s leading meditation app, Headspace.

We encounter several mentally draining situations as we go about our daily routine, which more often than not, leaves us stressed, filled with anxiety and unfocused. Being able to step away from the hustle and bustle, and sit in silence with the help of guided meditation, is a great way to hit the reset button and rejuvenate the overworked mind.

There are thousands of studies showing that mindfulness meditation can positively impact mental and physical health. Whether it’s by reducing stress, improving sleep, increasing focus, or improving relationships, research shows that mindfulness works. While the research on mindfulness, especially digital mindfulness programs, is still growing, there is evidence to support the use of mindfulness training for many outcomes.

How does it work?

The creators of Headspace, view meditation as an exercise for the brain. Through meditation, we can build up areas of our brain and rewire it to enhance positive traits like focus and decision making and diminish the less positive ones like fear and stress. Most importantly, this means there is a possibility to change your brain for the better, in a way that is long-lasting.

With over 2000 meditation apps out there, Headspace is one of the only apps committed to advancing the field of mindfulness meditation through clinically-validated research on their product. Currently, research studies are in progress with large national institutions that could be among the largest mindfulness meditation trials ever conducted. The creators are committed to ensuring that Headspace can actually make an impact in our lives.

Proof:

Headspace can make people kinder to others.

And kinder to themselves... a study with health professionals found that only 10 days of Headspace improved self-compassion.
