Feel right at home with the right colour scheme

Here is a simple hack to selecting a colour scheme for your space. Think of how you want to feel when you are inside a room!

Do you want to feel romantic and calm, or homey and comforted? Would you prefer to live in a space that is energised and vibrant, or elegant and serene?

Whatever the feeling you are going for, you can create it with the right colour paint, a paint brush and a little imagination.

Subtle and Soothing

A calm ambience is what you might be looking for in your bedroom. If so, choose lighter shades of cool or warm colours, such as blues, lavenders, pinks, and soft yellows, as these exude a feeling of tranquillity and restfulness.

Add character to the space by introducing different textures in your bedding and accessories to make the room even more appealing.

In your kitchen, try sage, buttery yellows or powdery blues for a peaceful setting.

Stylish and Elegant

Neutral colours add elegance and flexibility to any room. A simple living room can be refreshed with a combination of a neutral tone such as almond on the walls, combined with dark brown trims.

Neutral colours allow for the flexibility to change the feel of a room by adding coloured accessories and a trim in a new colour. Remember, the lighter the colour you choose, the more spacious the room will appear. Varying shades of rust, mahogany or garnet will present a rich and earthy ambiance.

Vivacious and Vibrant

If you want a room with pizzazz, go for vibrant colours, such as shades of orange, gold, red and purple. Choose two colours next to each other on the colour wheel for a visual contrast, as one will stand out from the other. For example, gold and orange work well together as complementing colours, while black and red will present a bold look that stands out.

Changing the look and feel of any room is usually as simple as adding contrasting colours to the walls and trim, or a darker shade on one wall.

The colours you select are the key to achieving your desired look.
