WESTERN BUREAU:

Torrential rainfall threatened to derail the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) 7th annual Fine Cuisine and Wine Festival at the Rose Hall Great House in St James, but the Lord would not allow it.

As late as 5:30 p.m. last Saturday, all indications pointed towards a cancellation, but the man behind the successful event, Delwin Rochester, said: “No way, we are not cancelling; the rain will stop by 6:30 p.m.”

Obviously, the rain heard his words, because by 6:30 p.m. the only water that showed signs of not going anywhere was what soaked the grounds of the historical great house.

The Montego Bay chapter outdid themselves yet again, this time expanding the layout to accommodate the largest food and beverage booths and pay homage to the incredible support by Montegonians, who far outnumbered last year’s event.

Staged in order to sustain JHTA charities, president of the association, Omar Robinson, said this year, House No. 10 at the SOS Children’s Village; the Save the Child Programme; the Montego Bay Learning Centre, a school for the physically challenged; and the Home for the Deaf will benefit from the event.

The dream team behind the event included Nadine Spence, Mary Chambers, Robin Russell, Doris Morgan and Claudeth James, all members of the JHTA Montego Bay chapter.

Party band, PACE, gave patrons one of the most amazing evenings possible and literally had a dancing audience under their command.
