For most people, Christmas has come and gone. Not so for the girls and house mothers of Yadel Girls’ Home in Old Harbour, for whom ‘Christmas’ comes at least four times per year.

Hosts of Hear Me Out Life Uncut, a Youtube show, partnered with Shades of Elegance Salon and Spa to ensure that the Yuletide event was special, by treating the 21 girls who call Yadel their home to a Christmas dinner on December 18.

The young ladies started the day at Shades of Elegance’s Old Harbour, St Catherine location where they, and the house mothers, enjoyed beauty services of their choice - hair styling, manicure, pedicure, makeup application and the like. The aim was to have each girl dolled up for the annual dinner hosted by Treacha Reid McCalla, managing director of Shades of Elegance, and her partners.

Reid McCalla emphasised that this was not an event confined to December, but was done every three months, culminating in the dinner event in the festive season, which was made possible through partnerships.

“I do this because people need to know that they are loved. They also want to feel a sense of belonging, not just at Christmas, but all year round. I personally give what I want, that is my mantra. Good haircare is a part of personal hygiene and it’s always good to have someone helping you along the way. For December’s event, I want to thank OJ Coolers, KD’s Farms, Dong Dong Restaurant, Antonette’s Accessories, GBG Treaures, Old Harbour News and, of course, the Hear Me Out duo of Sashelle Gooden and Antonette Newell.”

“We are grateful that we were able to be a part of this initiative. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those girls and house mothers is priceless and will forever be etched in our minds,” Gooden, host of Hear Me Out Life Uncut said. “Working on this initiative has further finalised our decision to launch our Hear Me Out Youth Ambassador programme and scholarship where Antonette and I will be contributing $50,000 to someone who wishes to further their education.
