Mitzie Gordon Burke-Green is the new CBFFAJ president
At their annual general meeting on May 21, the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica (CBFFAJ) voted Managing Director of Jamaica Trading Services Mitzie Gordon Burke-Green to the presidency of the 51-year-old association.
In her inaugural address as president, Burke-Green said her goal is to "deepen membership engagement and participation". The new president also stated that she intends to "build upon the ongoing educational and development programmes for the membership, and work with the new commissioner of Customs to iron out issues such as the challenges of customs broker licence renewal". Burke-Green succeeded colleague customs broker Marcia Bent, who led the CBFFAJ for the past three years.
In attendance at the AGM was the new commissioner of the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA), Velma Ricketts Walker, who was warmly received by the CBFFAJ's membership. In an engaging speech to the members, she committed to building the relationship between the JCA and the CBFFAJ. "Your contribution matters", said Ricketts Walker. "At Customs, we regard your partnership as valuable in the efforts to facilitate trade".
The 51st AGM elected an 18-member executive board for the 2017-2018 period.
