Preparations are in high gear for the Caribbean Shipping Association’s (CSA) 18th Caribbean Shipping Executives Conference, which is scheduled to take place in the vibrant cultural mecca of Kingston. Up to 300 delegates, including shipping and business magnates, policy-makers, government officials and executives from other trade- and logistics-related fields are expected to converge at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel over two days, from May 20- 21, for the conference.

The forum will explore the impact of increasing digitisation – the process of changing from analogue to digital forms; and the corresponding digitalisation – the use of digital technologies to change business models and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities. Also high on the agenda are environmental sustainability and resilience, topics which respond to the International Maritime Organization’s imperative 2020, the aim of which is to promote the use of cleaner fuels and the preparation for natural and other disasters to which freight of all kinds are vulnerable. Also to be explored are ‘people, empowerment and productivity, growing change’ and other topics related to shipping, trade and logistics, and their enabling and operational frameworks.

Conference speakers and presenters include vice-president of global strategies at Hudson Analytix, Inc; Max Bobys, director of sustainability, City of Orlando; Chris Castro, head human resources, Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena; Karina Kure; and branding consultant and business coach, Gattim Kabbara.

Attendees will network in cyberspace as they tweet about the conference and use Instagram to capture their moments; establish new contacts and leads on LinkedIn; and share the high quality of their conference experiences on Facebook. Another cyber feature which has become a big hit at CSA conferences is engagement through the conference app. It allows real-time updates of activities and reminders and is an excellent opportunity for a closed user group of professionals to interact and connect.
