SAJ spreads Christmas joy to Greenwich Farm elderly, children
The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) hosted its annual treats for the elderly in Greenwich Farm and students at the Marcus Garvey Basic School on December 14 and 15, respectively.
The association presented care packages of groceries to 50 of the community’s senior citizens at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church at 31 East Avenue, where the school is also located. Before the presentations, the SAJ staff extended well-wishes for the season to the golden agers and joined them in singing their favourite carols.
The following day, roughly 50 students, ranging from ages three to six, received a range of toys and other treats, in addition to tokens being presented to their teachers.
Over the years, the SAJ has played a crucial role in the community, including hosting a twice-monthly free clinic for the elderly and adopting the basic school which it supports through payment of salaries, a feeding programme and assistance with its summer Toddlers’ Camp.
