CSA workshop strengthens sector’s cybersecurity resilience

The Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) staged a cybersecurity training session to empower professionals in the maritime industry in Puerto Rico on August 22.

The workshop formed part of the Caribbean Region Security Resilience Initiative, which is aimed at providing the CSA’s members with an introduction to cyber risk and cyber resiliency.

Led by cybersecurity expert Max Bobys and hosted by the Puerto Rico Shipping Association, the session left attendees equipped with invaluable insights into the ever-evolving cyberthreat landscape. The approximately two dozen participants received an overview of cyber risk factors impacting the maritime industry, specifically the broader transportation and critical infrastructure sectors. What’s more, they also received a deeper understanding of cyber risks facing the sector and methods to mitigate, respond to and recover from cyberattacks.

Bobys, vice-president of HudsonCyber, brought a unique perspective to the initiative, providing insights into cyber risk-management best practices, use cases, lessons learnt, and discussions on various factors, including information technology, operational technology systems, third-party risk, health and safety, regulatory compliance, physical security, among others.

The seminar was carefully designed to cater to management-level and non-information technology staff, with a specific focus on individuals new to cybersecurity. Participants had the opportunity to explore practical knowledge and engage in exercises to reinforce their learning.

The cybersecurity training session marked a significant milestone in enhancing cybersecurity awareness and resilience in the Caribbean region, as initiatives like this become increasingly vital due to evolving threats in the digital realm.
