Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) CEO Mark Williams (third left) and Medical Associates Vice-President for Strategic Growth and Operations Toni Cooke (second right) seal the deal following the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open KWL’s Medical Centre at its Kingport location recently. Others joining in the moment (from left) are Medical Associates Director of Nursing Operations Sharmen Edwards, KWL’s Human Resources and Administration Manager Denise Walcott-Samuels, and Roan Campbell, KWL’s safety, health and environment manager.

KINGSTON WHARVES Limited (KWL) expanded its emergency medical services to employees by officially opening a medical centre at its Kingport location. The facility, which is being operated in partnership with Medical Associates Hospital, is also complemented by an ambulance service and wellness information sessions.

KWL’s CEO Mark Williams officially opened the facility along with Toni Cooke, vice-president of strategic growth and operations at the Medical Associates Hospital.

Williams emphasised KWL’s commitment to supporting its team members in achieving good health and positive wellness. “This facility is part of our corporate wellness strategy geared at enhancing the health, safety and well-being of our employees. Having a medical centre and an ambulance service on site is vital for a port terminal, both from a preventative healthcare standpoint and to save lives through an active and accessible emergency response mechanism.”

The centre will bring under one umbrella the health services already offered by KWL to its team members but currently outsourced, as well as to provide access to a wider range of new services.

Outlining the full list of services offered by the health centre, KWL’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Denise Walcott-Samuels, disclosed that in addition to annual employee medicals, the facility will offer pre-employment medicals, assessment medicals and executive medicals. It will also facilitate 24-hour satellite medical services, optical services, non-routine visits, ambulance service, random recreational drug testing, prescription drugs, and health and wellness programmes.

In her comments, Cooke said “This is a landmark partnership for Medical Associates Hospital, because Kingston Wharves is our first corporate client to take advantage of all our major services in a bundle: an on-site clinic, ambulance service and wellness seminars,” adding, “By extending beyond traditional healthcare, Medical Associates and Kingston Wharves recognise that a proactive and convenient corporate wellness strategy is key to employee well-being and productivity.”
