Carreras awards 30 scholarships to tertiary institutions

Thirty tertiary-level students from a pool of more than 300 applicants were the beneficiaries of scholarships and bursaries valued at more than J$3.7 million at the Carreras Limited's 47th Annual Scholarship Awards held recently at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

The company's strong focus on education was underscored by the introduction of a new category of awards. In addition to seven bursaries, seven teacher's college scholarships, seven community scholarships, four visual and performing arts scholarships, for the first time, the company introduced national scholarships. These were awarded to five recipients in varying fields such as computer science, journalism, and accounting. This represents a total value of $300,000 per year for the duration of the awardees' studies.

Marcus Steele, managing director and keynote speaker, reminded the awardees that Carreras remains committed to helping to create a Jamaica that is the "place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business", as stated in Jamaica's national Vision 2030 document.
