Wine and cheese fundraiser

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

After raising quarter million dollars last year, Falmouth Heritage Renewal and the Falmouth Chapter of the Georgian Society of Jamaica held its second staging of its wine and cheese fundraiser last Saturday at the Falmouth Wharf.

The event was a party with the sale of some locally made clothing accessories along with booths displaying the work of the host organisations. The organisers are expecting to surpass last year's figure as the money is to go into the restoration of some of the Georgian building similar to what was done last year.

President of the local Georgian Society Miss Marina Delfos said, "There are many historic houses in Falmouth that need repair but we were only able to three last year but this year we are expecting to do more."

Sisters, Bernice and Methlyn DeSilva, were awarded with a plaque for maintaining this Georgian house in a good way. Custos Rotulorum for Trelawny Paul Muschett lauded the ladies for the effort in maintaining the house.

Other persons in attendance included Mayor of Falmouth Councillor Garth Wilkinson, Honorary Council of Brazil James Goren and his wife Manuela, Commanding Officer for the Trelawny Police Superintendent Wilfred Campbell along with Fay Pickersgill the author of 'Jamaica's Fascinating Falmouth', the latest book on the town, among others.
