Dr Jessica Byron (centre) and Dr Paulette Ramsay (left) received the French Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite) conferred in the rank of Chevalier (knight) at the Embassy of France in Kingston, Jamaica. Ramsay is a senior lecturer and head of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and Byron is a senior lecturer and former head of the Department of Government. The award is given for distinguished service and for their contribution to the development of the French language and culture. The order was bestowed on them by French Ambassador His Excellency Jean-Michel Despax on December 2. - Contributed
