MoBay welcomes Guardian Group 5k night run

On Saturday, April 25, Guardian Group staged the first night run in Montego Bay with a 5K that began along Alice Eldemire Drive and finished a few metres from the Guardian Life office in the Fairview Office Park.

More than 1,000 of the 1,300 registrants walked and ran for charity. The initiative is a joint partnership between sister companies, Guardian Life Limited and Guardian General Insurance Jamaica Limited. Dr Delroy Fray, senior medical officer at the Cornwall Regional Hospital, and Leo Garel, CEO at the St Ann's Bay Hospital, both expressed their appreciation to the Guardian Group for the initiative and encouraged corporate Jamaica to remember the hospitals in their donations.

Eric Hosin, president of Guardian Life, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, opining that the turnout was a good one, especially considering it was a first. Hosin added that he was extremely pleased to see that persons from Kingston came to participate.

"This says a lot about our event and we want to say 'thank you' to everyone who made both our Kingston and Montego Bay runs a success," he said. Karen Bhoorasingh, president of Guardian General Insurance Jamaica was equally pleased.

"Once again, the race, this time in Montego Bay, took place without incident and we will make every effort for this trend to continue," she said. "This is the first year for the run in the second city, as we look forward to a bigger and better one next year. We are also so happy that this year we will be assisting the Cornwall Regional and St Ann's Bay hospitals, two great institutions that take care of our friends and family in so many areas."

Last year, the first Guardian Group "Keep It Alive 5K" race was held in New Kingston with more than 6,000 registrants helping to raise more than JA$9 million for the University Hospital of the West Indies and the Victoria Jubilee Hospital. This year, the Kingston race was held on April 18 with the same two hospitals benefitting.
