Joining the Spectre in High Fashion
Henchmen, Bond girls, and everyone in-between, showed up for the opening night of Spectre and the launch of The Collection MoDa at Palace Cineplex on Wednesday night.
Some attendees mirrored characters from the famous Bond series; others the title of one of the films (according to the night's theme). But the underlying current was the high fashion that flooded into Sovereign Centre. And what is The Collection MoDa without fashion? The designs of the top-five contestants for the First Global MoDa grant were on display for all to view throughout the cocktail section of the night.
Before the movie started, the woman of the night, Kerry-Ann Clarke - dressed in a fabulous deep green Franz Christie jumpsuit - noted that it was time for designers and stylists to tell the Jamaican story. "From the get-go, The Collection MoDa has kept the business of the creative industry at the core of its manifesto," she said.
Clarke was excited as she spoke of the success of the first MoDa market, which was introduced last year. This year, the market returns with a record 50 participants in the categories of sculpture, design, artisans, and culinary arts. This year's participants will be from Jamaica, the Caribbean, and the United States.
Clarke thanked individuals for their support over the years and her team for its dedication.
The Collection MoDa will be held on November 21, followed by MoDa market on the 22nd.
