I am Bolt - The Premiere

LONDON, England:

A cold winter's evening was punctuated by some red carpet heat when the fastest man in the world and some of his celebrity friends took London's ever-buzzing West End for Monday night's I Am Bolt world premiere.

The movie, which peers into the creases for a never-before-seen look at the life of Jamaican speedster Usain Bolt, had arrived to much acclaim.

IMdB, one of the more respected platforms for movie reviews, was quite generous in their 8.4/10 early grade of the 1 hour and 47 minutes biopic, with British newspaper The Guardian, giving the documentary 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Not bad.

No wonder Bolt seemed in such a great mood despite the chill - even by his regular ever cheerful standards.

Sporting a navy blue bespoke piece from Italian design house Brioni, (which, at the bottom, end fetches more than £4,000 (J$650,000)), a black slim-fit coat and Gucci oxfords, Bolt showed that he is just as hard to keep up with on the red carpet as he is on the track.

Hundreds of fans and media personnel crammed the front of the Odeon Leicester Square cinema for a chance to get close to the iconic sprinter and the other household names that were expected to make the walk.

Giant screens on the outer walls of the Odeon were plastered with images of the Jamaican sprinter, and clips from the movie, which is being hailed as the year's biggest documentary.

The image of skimpily dressed girls sporting feathers and see-through bodysuits was the clearest indication that the show was about to get started.

The fact that they managed to stand and dance in freezing conditions was in itself a feat to be celebrated.

Bolt himself was joined at the top of the carpet by what was later identified as the Bolt dancers. OK, so that wasn't very imaginative, but neither were their outfits, which left little to the imagination.

With his lifelong friend, Nugent Walker, who has also been his executive manager for the past few years, super agent Ricky Simms, and his parents, Wellesley and Jennifer, not far behind, Bolt slowly made his way through the media pen before doing a double-take to sign autographs and pose for his fans.

Also joining the nine-time Olympic champion on the red carpet were English Premier League stars Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, who despite representing England at the international level was also born in Jamaica. Current Arsenal stars Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin, along with Chelsea Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal 'Invincible' Robert Pires who, like Bolt, are all sponsored by Puma.

British pop royalty Liam Payne, from popular boy band One Direction, who will soon become a father, said he could not miss the chance to hang with Bolt, with fellow crooners such as Olly Mur; former Spice Girl Geri Horner; and a host of other sporting and TV stars also in attendance, with US crooner Justin Bieber saving his appearance for the after party.

I Am Bolt is available on digital download, Blu-ray and DVD.

The movie's Jamaican premiere will take place next Tuesday at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
