Farewell High Commissioner Onoh
It was a night of mixed emotions as the diplomatic corp but farewell to another 'family member' - Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria Lilian Onoh.
With just a few hours left in the country before she departs for her new assignment Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia Onoh was saying good bye to the country that was her home, and the people who were her friends for the last two and half years.
It was an intimate ceremony at the office of the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Dominican Republic Ambassador Jose Tomas Ares last Tuesday evening. Ambassador Ares gave a heartfelt speech noting that she was not just his colleague, but also his friend.
Onoh, in her speech, mirrored his sentiment. She concurred that Jamaica had indeed become her home, and her colleagues did not just become friends, they became family, and sometimes psychiatrist. She emphasised that they were there for each other during the toughest times, and she appreciated the counsel they gave.
After the formalities, there were warm hugs, kisses, and kind exchanges. Some even took photographs as personal final mementos. Guests also enjoyed fine wine, cocktails and appetisers as they shared memories with their friend one last time.
