Anyone who is capable of maintaining a best-friend relationship for 40 years has a special gift that is to be treasured.

In the case of Mureen James, she has had three best friends for that period, and all of them were at her 50th-birthday party celebration at Mystic Thai in Montego Bay last Saturday night.

"At 11 years old, you don't realise that one friendship, one kind word, one hug, [or] sharing laughter can make such an impact on your life. Mureen's absolute, unequivocal, undaunt-ing dedication to her friends, her family, and her children is a natural part of every breath she takes," was how one of the three, Karlene Simpson Barron, described the director of sales of Hyatt Ziva and Zilara.

The words 'phenomenal', 'strong', 'kind', 'loyal', 'graceful', and 'beautiful' (inside and out) were just a few words that spurred members of the intimate group that gathered for dinner and fellowship to raise their glasses in a symbolic toast to the birthday girl.

Naedene Tufton, who went to primary and high school with James, said that her friend is a wonderful, caring, loving and giving person who will never hesitate to make sacrifices for the ones she loves.

Motivational speaker Joy Clark, who met James in a professional capacity 10 years ago, said that the birthday girl has a heart of gold. "After we met, we instantly became friends. I was enamoured by her beauty, but later realised that she was not just a beauty queen. She was beautiful inside and out."
