Two of Jamaica’s most impressive landmarks — the 109-year-old Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, and the famed Blue Mountains — will be among aspects of Jamaican culture captured for artistic display at a Japanese virtual exhibition of specially designed kimonos, Japan’s national dress. The exhibition will showcase all the participating countries in the Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduled for 2021 in Tokyo. Local artisans working with The Kimono Project designed kimonos featuring aspects of each country. The project was funded by volunteers, and had been planned more than a year ago. It will unfold in two forms, a virtual collection, which took place October 16-18 at the Kyoto Kyocera Museum, and in an online movie.
