Today marks the 40th anniversary of Bob Marley’s death. The reggae icon died of cancer at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, Florida. He was 36 years old. His death was followed by two services, days later, on May 21 — one for close friends and family at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in St Andrew and a state funeral at the National Arena. Mourners filled the arena and lined the streets — students in uniforms and Rastafarians in traditional garb — to pay their final respects to the King of Reggae, who was buried in Nine Mile, St Ann, where he was born.
