WESTERN BUREAU:

St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) remain unbeaten in the 2014 ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup, after a 3-1 fourth round Group E victory over Lacovia High at Santa Cruz yesterday.

The top-of-the-table clash was settled by three second-half goals from the champions, including a brace from Jovoney Brown, to lift them to maximum 12 points.

Brown opened the scoring in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock and a stubborn Lacovia defence, marshalled by team captain Renielo Brown.

Striker Donjay Smith made it 2-0 when he fired past André Frater in the Lacovia goalpost.

But just when the game looked safe, the inspirational Javaughn Williams scored a marvellous header in the 76th minute to pull Lacovia within a goal of the champions.

Smith was scoring his seventh goal of the campaign so far.

Brown then made the game safe for STETHS with his second goal of the afternoon, netting in the 82nd minute to condemn Lacovia to their first defeat of the competition.

Williams? goal was Lacovia?s first in more than three years and a testament of their improvement in this year?s competition, as they had beaten Munro College on their way to joint first-place entering yesterday?s match against STETHS.

The Andrew Edwards-coached Munro returned to winning ways, hammering Maggotty 4-0. It was their first win in two matches and victory put them back on track.

remain in contention

Also in Group E, B.B. Coke ticked off another sumptuous result, this time a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Newell, to remain in contention.

Former champions Rusea?s High tagged Green Island High School 2-1 in Lucea to stay at the top of Group B on six points alongside Frome, which stopped Merlene Ottey 2-0 at Frome Sports Complex.

Manchester High stormed to a 7-0 win over Belair High in Group F, but rain intervened in the other matches in that group, which will now be played at a date to be announced.
