Petersfield settle for second

Petersfield High School failed to capitalise on a number of chances against lowly opposition in the daCosta Cup yesterday, as they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Black River High.

The draw means that Petersfield remain second in Group D on 15 points, one less than leaders Godfrey Stewart High, who were idle on the day.

Black River entered that match with nothing to lose as they were only completing their fixture having already given up on any hope of advancing to the next round. They have five points in group play. The Delroy Delisser-coached Petersfield had only themselves to blame for not getting all three points with a number of guilt-edged chances missed.

Romane Wright had three clear chances to score but was unable to do so.

The Westmoreland-based school rested their top player and leading goal scorer Akeem Whyte but are sure to advance with just Saturday?s round of matches remaining before the next phase of the competition kicks into high gear.

The result all but settle the placing in the group, with Godfrey Stewart having a game in hand this Saturday.

Over in Group F, second place Manchester High defeated Belair 5-0 for 13 points, after they had six points deducted for using an ineligible player in two of the previous wins, while deCarteret lost 2-0 to Mile Gully High. The win lifted Mile Gully (22 points) to the top of the group.
