Champs STETHS back in the daCosta final

St Elizabeth Technical clipped Dinthill Technical 1-0 in Montego Bay yesterday to book a date in the showpiece daCosta Cup final against Clarendon College on November 29.

It's a fourth consecutive final appearance for STETHS, who got the all-important goal from Shawn Genus in the 42nd minute.

STETHS were far from their best in yesterday's semi-final, but coach Omar Wedderburn was satisfied with reaching the final.

"There is no such thing as an ugly win," declared Wedderburn. "You only need one goal sometimes to win, and we did so today to reach the final to defend our title," he added.

There were no fireworks in the match that failed to sparkle for much of the 90 minutes, with Dinthill sitting deep in defence for long periods, allowing the STETHS midfield trio of Javoney Brown, Chris-Andrew Dixon and Rohan Lindsay to pull the strings for forwards Donjay Smith and Akito Graham.

Dinthill started pretty well, however, testing the STETHS defence early. They came within a whisker of taking the lead in the 9th minute, when central defender Rushane McClymont cleared off the line from a Zachary Brown attempt.

It was the closest Dinthill would get all afternoon.

Ten minutes into the match, Graham tested Dinthill's goalkeeper, George Brown, who got down quickly to make the save.

Assistant coach at Dinthill Dorian Card told The Sunday Gleaner his team was disappointing in front of goal.

"Most of our plans were executed, except that we just could not score today," Card said.
