MoBay crush Arnett 5-0

Allan Ottey slammed a brace as champions Montego Bay United (MBU) shrugged off Sunday's poor defensive performance to overpower Arnett Gardens 5-0 in a

football match yesterday at Wespow Park in Montego Bay and move up the standings to 17 points in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

In-form striker Dino Williams opened the scoring for MBU in the 23rd minute then left the field with an unspecified injury before Ottey capitalised on a counter-attack to double the lead in the 44th minute.

Midfielder Graham Green, one of three changes in the side from Sunday's heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Reno in the Flow KO final, scored his team's third in the 76th minute with an unstoppable shot that flew past Damion Hyatt in the Arnett goal.

Ottey then grabbed his second and MBU's fourth when he slid the ball past the advancing Hyatt for a 4-0 lead.

The influential Leslie St Fleur then completed the rout, taking an easy chance with aplomb to embarrass Arnett Gardens, who looked rather lethargic.

"We didn't turn up today to play; I think concentration was at an all-time low and it showed in the final score," said Arnett's coach, Jerome Waite, who was asked to address the notion that he is under pressure, as his team has suffered a number of losses in recent times.

"That's what coaches will get when results do not fall their way. I am not under any illusion, neither am I under pressure to get wins. My job is ok, but we need to once again begin to win these matches," he said.

The closest Arnett came to scoring was through the effort of Michael Webb, but he found Jacomeno Barrett in fine form, as he effected a save.

"A clean sheet after that loss was important, and I am very pleased with the way we played today," said MBU head coach, Carlos Garcia.

"We did some readjustments to the team and it worked. I think we had to change the system to get this positive result. Three points was vital, as we try to get closer to the leaders," he said.

As the Junglists' bad run of form continue, they remain stuck on 14 points from 10 games.
