Herb Morrison at the double

HeRbert Morrison Technical High has emerged double winners of the ISSA High School Western Basketball Championship, following Game Two victories in their best-of-three final in the Under-19 and U-16 categories against Muschett High and Cornwall College, respectively, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club courts.

In the senior division, they defeated Muschett High 57-53 on a game-high 16 points from Gregory Wallace, who led them to their fourth hold on the Under-19 title.

Wallace was also huge on the boards with 15 rebounds, while accounting for five blocked shots to help keep Muschett at bay.

His teammate Kuwayne Waite added 15 points, while dishing out five assists, and Ralique Grant chipped in with an effective all-round performance to end with 11 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Muschett's top scorer was Lamon Thompson, who did his best with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Djair Bulgin scored eight points to go with the five rebounds and two assists in his team's loss.

In game two of the Under16 final, Herbert Morrison showed poise and dismissed Cornwall College 52-33, as Brandon Dawkins led the way with a superb triple-double, 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals.

Herbert Morrison led by as many as 13 points at half-time (32-19). Abdul Adekoya scored 10 points, while adding 11 rebounds and five steals to help steer the eventual winners to the famous win and a hold on a second junior title.

Giovani Bailey grabbed 12 rebounds and scored four points for Cornwall College while Nicholas Gilchrist finished strongly with 10 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

Herbert Morrison will now participate in the all-island play-off championship for a chance to become the national champions.
