Mexico expect tough test from Canada

Heavy favourites Mexico will go in search of a second straight victory in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship but will face arguably their sternest test when they battle Canada in the top-of-the-table clash this afternoon at the Montego Bay Sports Complex at 3 p.m.

Mexico head coach Almaguer Trevino thinks his team has what it takes to win a second straight game in the championship.

In the evening's second game, Honduras will be hoping to inflict another heavy defeat on Cuba at 5:30 pm. Then at 8 p.m., El Salvador (one point) tackle Haiti, who are pointless.

Trevino said in spite of thrashing the Cubans 8-1 in their opening game, they are sure to face tougher opponents and wants his team to adjust to the changes as quickly as possible.

"Contrary to what others may think, after the big win, I am less confident because we haven't seen the other teams, as that result means nothing," Trevino said.

"It is a time for us to consider not what we have done right so far, but what we have done wrong and make every effort to correct those. I am expecting another good game," he added.

Canada eased past Haiti 3-1 in their opener, also on Saturday, and should prove to be stubborn opposition for the Mexicans.

Jordan Hamilton scored a brace for the Canadians in that game, opening the scoring in the 11th minute, before adding a second in the 18th. Midfielder Jonel Desire cut the lead in half when he fired home in the 29th, as the Haitians tried to rally. However, a 70th-minute goal from the very good Michael Petrasso made the points safe for the Rob Gale-coached Canadian team.
