Burchell aiming to go faster in 2015

With three consecutive wins under her belt indoors, Alabama University's Remona Burchell is feeling confident about her season so far, and even has an eye on making the Jamaican national team to the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Beijing, China, this summer.

The Alabama senior won the 60-metre final in 7.20 seconds at the New Mexico Team Invitational; she ran 7.25 to win the 60m final at the Vanderbilt Invitational and produced a season best 7.14 at the Tyson Invitational last weekend. Getting faster each time she races, Burchell feels her best is yet to come.

"I rate my season as a good one so far. I am progressing at each track meet, which I think is a part of how my training is," she said.

The former Herbert Morrison High sprinter was pleased with her races at the Tyson Invitational, which she said is a sign that she is moving in the right direction.

"All three races last Friday were good in terms of execution. My block starts were all consistent and that's what I work on for each competition," said the sprinter who underwent surgery for a sports hernia following her successful season last year when she won both NCAA Indoor 60m and NCAA 100-metre titles.

"My health is getting better each day as I push my body to work with the pressure of training and competition," she said.

Burchell races at the SEC Conference Championships at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Kentucky, on the weekend of February 27, where she aims to win once again. After that, faster times beckon still and a possible place on Jamaica's team to Beijing.

"I am aiming for national representation this season," she said.
