Campbell-Brown

Seven-time Olympic medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown, will be the honouree when Vere Technical High stages the fifth Ben Francis Track and Field Invitational meet at the school's ground in Clarendon today.

There will be a motorcade for the Vere past student from May Pen to the institution where, on her arrival, she will be given a special award.

Action at the meet is expected to begin at 9 a.m.

Once again, several school teams will be using the meet as a qualifying one for next month's GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships. Among the teams which will be on show are defending inter-secondary girls' champions Edwin Allen High and St. Jago High, the two teams expected to battle for the female title at next month's meet.

KEEN RIVALRY

There should be keen rivalry between the two with the host team, Manchester High and Spalding High expected to be among the top performers.

There will be some six championship events on the day's programme, three among the boys and three girls. The winning schools in these championship events will receive cash prizes of $40,000 each. The boys events are 2000 metres steeplechase, 400-metre Class One and 4x100m Class One relay. The girls' championship events are 100-metre Class One, high jump Class One and 4x400m relay.
