Williams steps up to the occasion in Red Stripe Premier League

In the colours of Montego Bay United, forward Dino Williams has been a man for the big occasion.

His big-occasion performance came into play on Sunday night when he stepped up to the penalty spot and blasted past Arnett Gardens' custodian, Peter Harrison, to give his team a share of the points in their Red Stripe Premier League fixture.

Williams converted in the 90th minute to erase Andrew Phang's opener, also from the penalty spot, for Arnett Gardens in the 37th minute. The one point gave third-place Montego Bay United a three-point lead over fourth-place Humble Lion as the teams battle for a top-four position with seven games to go in the round.

"This is a big, big, big point for us. We wanted the win, but we got a point and we have to be satisfied with it. We just played the leaders at their home and a point is a big plus for us," explained Williams, who played an influential role in the semi-finals and the final as Montego Bay United won last season's title.

Like last season, Williams did not have a fruitful run in the early part of the season.

"Coming into this game today, I was very confident of scoring. It has been about five games since I had not registered. So I got an opportunity from the penalty spot today and I was confident enough to go out there and execute it," the 24-year-old said.

Having had another goal under his belt, Williams is hoping that it will signal a rich vein of form heading into the semi-finals.

"This is just my sixth so far and my hope is that this will give me a boost to continue and get some more before we get to the semi-final. Last year, I did not score a lot until the semi-final, but pressure is a hell of a thing. People are looking on you to score and that can bring you down sometimes, but I am working harder and, on match days, I just hope to come out and execute," added the player who has under 10 caps for the Reggae Boyz.

Williams is also hoping that an increased scoring will pull him back closer to the Reggae Boyz squad and cement a contract with a team in Norway.

"I was supposed to play overseas, but I guess the time was not right. I am here working to go back in June. I hope they call me back at that time. They said they will continue to look at me throughout the rest of the season and I have been working hard trying to score some goals.

"I just have to get healthy. I had a few niggles and I just have to go out there and register and hope that, when we get to the semi-final, anything can happen, and I intend to get some goals," he said.
