Bolt returns to NY for adidas Grand Prix

Seven years after he broke the 100 metres World Record for the first time, six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt is to return to New York for the adidas Grand Prix set for June 13 at the Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York. The adidas Grand Prix is the seventh stop in the IAAF Diamond League Circuit.

Back in 2008, just days after running a world-leading 9.76 seconds at the National Stadium in Kingston, Bolt obliterated Asafa Powell's World Record of 9.74 seconds to defeat Tyson Gay in rainy conditions at the adidas Classic.

The big Jamaican would go on to lower the record in August that year at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, becoming the first man to run faster than 9.70 seconds.

Also, since his first World Record run, Bolt, now 28, has won six Olympic gold medals and eight World Championship titles, broken seven more World Records and become one of the most famous persons on the planet.

"No one could ever forget their first World Record, and I will never forget the crowd in New York that night," said Bolt. "They had to wait for an hour during a thunderstorm delay before our race, and I don't think a single person left the stadium.

"They deserved a great performance, and I'm glad I was able to give it to them. I'm looking forward to running in New York again," he remarked.

Bolt will open his international season with a 100m in Rio on April 19. He has also announced a 100m race for Paris on July 4 and a 200m in Lausanne on July 9, as he prepares for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, in August.
